Still very nice tone just not as woody as when playing at lower volumes (still loud).Ī friend of mine who got started on bass when I lent him the Ferrington needs parts for one he is putting back together. My only complaint about the bass is when things get loud it sounds more electric than acoustic. I built a custom soundhole cover out of a piece of plastic that came with some carry on luggage and foam glued on it. At first they will seem a little rubbery but after playing a few times you'll fall in love with them. They play better with a little higher action than I prefer on my fenders. Once they were on the bass, and after humidifying inside the body the top flattened out a bit and I didn't need the neck shims. I had shims in mine for a while but then I put on lower tension strings that I love, Thomastik JF344 Jazz Flatwounds. Since the neck is a standard 34" 4 hole fender style neck you can shim it it to fix any action issues. Actually the bridge is completely stable. It's top is slightly warped, just a bit of bow by the soundhole, it looks worse than it is, especially because under the bridge it's sloping. I have a Kramer Ferrington I took in a trade for a no name 15" cab and a bit of cash. All original tuners, bridge, saddle, nut.
